STA Loss Prevention Programs
Selvaggio, Teske & Associates is an active provider of loss prevention and risk management education programs for Ohio's design and build industries.  These programs are available for presentation to you firm’s professional staff.

Professional Liability-
The Basics
Participants will explore current loss prevention issues and techniques that can be used in daily practice. Principals, partners, executives, contract officers, and professional staff and technical personnel who have project responsibility and/or client contact. 2.0 AIA/CES LU Each participant will receive a copy of the presentation and a PLAN Q & A booklet.

Managing Contracts- 
The Basics

 

Participants will learn to minimize the risk of liability exposure by developing professional services agreements that are reasonable and fair to all parties while developing client negotiation skills on contractual matters that affect professional liability.  Principals, partners, executives, and contract officers (optional for other professional staff and technical personnel). 2.0 AIA/CES LU Each participant will receive a copy of the presentation, contract preparation checklists and useful contract clauses.
Managing Contracts- 
Advanced
This program goes deeper to explore a number of additional important contractual and loss prevention issues. Participants will learn to develop stronger alternative language and negotiate with clients to achieve more equitable professional services agreements. Principals, partners, executives, and contract officers (optional for other professional staff and technical personnel). 2.0 AIA/CES Lus HSW Each participant will receive a copy of the presentation and contract preparation checklists.
It's Not Only About Hard Hats Participants will develop a better understanding of construction phase issues, risks and rewards. The program will explore some of the common misconceptions about this critical phase, as well as provide tools to help increase the effectiveness of the services provided during the construction phase. All principals, partners, executive officers, professional staff, and any other staff that performs construction observation services. 2.0 AIA/CES Lus HSW Each participant receives a copy of the presentation and a PLAN Project Representative’s Manual.

The Digital Challenge

This workshop addresses liability issues design professionals face in their automated environments. From ownership and delivery of electronic documents to the complexity of managing the revolutionary changes evoked by BIM and other technological changes, participants will learn how to establish procedures and practices that will improve their risk management and their bottom line. All principals, partners, executive officers, professional staff, and all other technical personnel who have client contact or project responsibilities. 2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant will receive a copy of the presentation and newsletters relative to the subject.
Client Evaluation In this program participants will learn the importance of good client evaluation, acquire tools and techniques that assist in client evaluation and selection, learn how to manage both internal and external expectations, and develop an action plan for their firm. All principals, partners, professional staff, and all other technical personnel who have client contact or project responsibilities. 2.0 AIA/CES LU Each participant receives a copy of the presentation and pre-project and completed project evaluation forms.
Condo Risk
Management
This program addresses risk factors involved with condominium projects. All principals, partners, executives, and contract officers (optional for other professional staff and technical personnel). 2.0 AIA/CES Lus HSW Each participant receives a copy of the presentation and contractual clauses.
Limitation of
Liability
This program focuses on the history of limitation of liability, its usage, and how to incorporate and negotiate limitation of liability in contracts. All principals, partners, executives and contract officers, optional for professional staff, and all other technical personnel. 2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant receives a PLAN Limitation of Liability Handbook and a copy of the presentation.
Claims Case Study
Workshop
Case Study Workshops use the Harvard Business School method.  Several actual claims cases are available for selection.  The cases are geared for multidiscipline architects, civil engineers, environmental engineers, mechanical engineers, and structural engineers. All principals, partners, executive officers, professional staff, and any other staff that performs construction observation services. 2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant receives a booklet that summarizes the claim and reviews the causes and suggested alternatives for avoidance.
Risk Drivers:
Understanding the
Dynamics of Risk
in the A/E Industry
This seminar looks at how economic trends impact the design professions; explores how understanding your clients’ needs can improve your firm’s quality; demonstrates how the A/E and professional liability industries interrelate; and reveals the technical and non-technical causes of claims. All principals, partners, professional staff, and all other technical personnel who have client contact or project responsibilities. -2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant receives a copy of  the presentation.
The Pain of the
Professional Liability Application
Learn how the insurance industry determines a firm’s professional liability insurance premium. Principals and others in firm who have responsibility for preparing the professional liability application. -2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant receives a copy of the presentation, and handouts to aid in the preparation of the application.
Defining Front End Documents Participants will gain new knowledge regarding what the AIA documents define as the contract documents including an understanding of how the various parts of the contract documents coordinate with each other.  There is an emphasis on understanding how the agreement between owner and contractor and the conditions of the contract for construction work together and interrelate to the other contract documents.  New skills will be gained on how to manage the selection process for these documents. All principals, partners, contract officers, professional staff, project managers, spec writers, and all other technical personnel who have client contact or project responsibilities. -2.0 AIA/CES LUs Each participant will receive a copy of the presentation, a documents cover letter and a checklist for the selection of front end documents.
